Case Study: Landfill Site, North East Scotland
This contract consisted of the production of some 13,000m³ b.e.s. to line a domestic waste landfill site. The contract was completed in four weeks with daily productions of up to 1500 tonnes being achieved.
Two host materials were used – a crushed basalt rock and a sand screened to 5mm down. The bentonite used was sodium-activated. |

Dumpers wereused to transport the freshly batched b.e.s. direct to site,thereby avoiding stockpiling and double handling. The b.e.s. was laid and rolled at 300mm thick to form an impermeable layer for the newly excavated cell.
Productions up to 750m³ / day were achieved.
